Introducing the MEX Extension Server

With the release of MEX v14.0.3.0 Build 14 comes a whole new MEX Extension Server.

The MEX Extension Server allows MEX to take the performance off the server and put it on the client machines. This server will greatly improve the performance of MEX for those customers that are generating a hundred plus reports over an hour slowing down the rest of the system.

How does the MEX Extension Server Work?

Previously every time a user tries to print a report that would be put in a queue. So if three or more users were trying to run a report at a time, the users would be lined up in the queue and processed one by one. The report would take longer to print.

The MEX Extension Server takes away that queue and lets the user generate as many reports as they want without being pushed back behind all the other users generating reports.

Reports are run more efficiently and instantly available to the user, without affecting any other users.

How do I get the MEX Extension Server Running on my Computer?

  • Simply go to Tools -> Options -> Download Extension Server
  • Save the server to the desktop
  • MEX Will automatically open and run
  • Now when you preview your reports, you will notice the web address on the footer of the report. This is being run on the MEX Extension Server.

Does the MEX Extension Server run in MEX or independently?

The Server runs independently of MEX. It will run another windows application. To make it easy for MEX users to open the application. Users can set the option to Run on Start Up to have the extension server running all the time.
